A series of carefully considered alterations to a heritage Richmond home, focused on bringing more light, warmth and functionality into its bathrooms while respecting the character of the original house.

Natural light became the key design move. A large skylight is positioned directly above the shower, drawing daylight deep into the room and transforming what would otherwise be an enclosed space into something bright and open. The shower becomes less of a purely functional zone and more of an experience, with changing light animating the stone and tiled surfaces throughout the day.

The new work is deliberately contemporary, but restrained enough to sit comfortably beside the existing heritage fabric. Clean lines, simple detailing and a calm material palette allow the old and new elements of the home to remain distinct without feeling disconnected.

The planning is compact and efficient, with every element carefully positioned to maximise usable space, natural light and movement. The result is a pair of bathrooms that feel generous beyond their footprint and form a quiet contemporary counterpoint to the original home.
